In 2011 the Western Region, Metropolitan Opera National Council, celebrates 54 years of promoting talented young singers through the Regional Auditions.  During this time, several notable stars made their debut at our Showcase Concert.  The Opera Showcase of the Desert celebrates its 36th year as an Associate of the Metropolitan Opera National Council - Western Region

About Us: Calendar of Events:
Mission: To showcase Metropolitan Opera National Council - Western Region finalists before they (the First Place Winner/s) compete/s in the National Preliminaries and Finals on the stage of the Metropolitan Opera in New York.

Main Fundraiser: Opera Showcase Concert features outstanding and talented young operatic singers from the Metropolitan Opera National Council - Western Regional Finals, followed by dinner.

36th Annual Showcase Gala

The 36th annual Opera Showcase Gala will be held at the historic Thunderbird Country Club; $100 includes wine before the concert and heavy hors-d'oeurves and open bar following the concert.  Formal attire optional.

Wednesday, December 21, 2011 - A Special Concert Benefitting the Metropolitan Opera National Council and Opera Showcase of the Desert was held.

It was “A Tribute To Mario Lanza, America’s Caruso” and starred  Internationally Acclaimed Tenor Joseph Frank with Soprano Jamie Chamberlain and Accompanied by Paul Floyd. Featured were arias and duets from Lanza in Opera , Operetta and his movies.  The evening ended with a sing-along of favorite Holiday songs.

Wednesday, January 26, 2011 at 6:00pm: Opera Showcase of the Desert Concert was held at the Annenberg Theater in Palm Springs.  It was followed by a sit-down dinner upstairs in the Palm Springs Art Museum, catered by Spencer's Restaurant of Palm Springs.  See poster on left side of this page.

Wednesday, December 29, 2010 at 6:00pm, Opera Showcase Preview at the Rancho Mirage Library.  This preview concert is open to all. You will see the Metropolitan Opera Stars of tomorrow.  (Free concert)

 

The 2010 Opera Showcase of the Desert Concert took place at the Annenberg Theater in Palm Springs in January 2010.  It was followed by a sit-down dinner upstairs in the Palm Springs Art Museum, catered by Spencer's Restaurant of Palm Springs.
