 About Us:

In 2011, the Western Region, Metropolitan Opera National Council celebrates 54 years of promoting talented young singers through the Regional Auditions.  During these 54 years, several notable stars made their debut at our Showcase Concert.  The Opera Showcase of the Desert celebrates its thirty-sixth year as an Associate of the Metropolitan Opera National Council/Western Region.

One these stars is Carol Vaness, who entertained and delighted us last season.  The list of accomplished opera stars includes: Deborah Voigt, Thomas Hampson, Brian Asawa, Suzanna Guzman and Michelle deYoung. It might also interest you to know that opera greats Samuel Ramey, Susan Graham and Renee Fleming all started their careers through the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions. We hope this year will be no exception in producing some terrific new Talent.

For three decades, we have produced “Showcase Concert” the popular operatic evening held in cooperation with the Palm Springs Art Museum.

We are the only organization established for the sole purpose of providing our Metropolitan finalists a “showcase” for their talents and the financial support to assist their career preparation.  The past three decades we have donated in excess of a quarter of a million dollars directly to the artists, the Western Region of the Metropolitan Opera and the Metropolitan Opera Education Program.
